Keeping up with the Hamels

Nursery rhyme

June 16, 2009 · 3 Comments

A friend of mine asked what our nursery theme was;
I stumbled and said, “Maybe, blue-ish?
And second-hand things; we have lots of those.”
Used items, but still look quite new-ish.

I’m not a designer, I don’t have a vision
Of Buddy’s new glorious “crib.”
We played it by ear, using things that we had,
And painted with colors we dig.

But now that I look, and I take it all in,
I don’t just see small infant items.
I look at the clothes, stuffed animals & toys,
And I think of the people behind them.

Swaddlers and blankets (some are hand-made!),
Tub toys, diapers, wipes, and a cradle.
A crib, sliding rocker, and onesies galore,
And dresser topped with changing table.

A monitor? Check! Changing pads? We got those,
And snugglies for when it gets colder.
Diaper bag, nursing cover, a walker and jumper
(those last two will help when he’s older).

“It takes a village,” they say, to raise a child these days,
And I don’t doubt the saying is true.
I’m humbled and thankful for family and friends
Who are excited for Buddy’s debut!

The generous hearts from near and afar
Have reminded me that God is faithful.
He’s providing the “village” for all Buddy’s needs. . .

I have a nursery theme now.

It is:

Grateful.
